Over the last few weeks, Matisse Class has been looking at poetry and specifically song lyrics.
They analysed Louis Armstrong’s iconic life-affirming ballad ‘Wonderful World’ and looked at the rhyme scheme as well as the themes represented in the song.
As a tribute to Beech Lodge, they wrote the song ‘Wonderful School’ about all the things we hear and see on a daily basis.
Here are the lyrics- feel free to give it a sing!
I see fields of green,
Sunflowers up high.
Hedwig hopping happily
Glancing with his red eye
And I think to myself
What a wonderful school
I see trees swinging
Birds tweeting too.
Leaves falling to the ground
Such a beautiful view.
And I think to myself
What a wonderful school
The voices of children
So positive and glee.
Tom typing in Reception
Roots talking loudly.
I see footballs flying high
Being kicked over the fence
Hoping it wouldn’t land
In something dense.
I hear Mr O C singing
So out of tune
We all get headaches
Miss Doncow seems immune
And I think to myself
What a wonderful school
Yes I think to myself
What a wonderful school
Oh yeaaah
