We were thrilled to have Stephen Shanly visit the school yesterday. He is undertaking a MAMMOTH fundraising challenge with a team of people in August this year called the Virgin Strive Challenge 2014 (www.strivechallenge.com). He will be running 3 marathons, rowing across the channel, cycling to Switzerland and then climbing the Matterhorn – all that between 7th August and 4th September!!!
The Strive Challenge is aiming to raise £750,000 for Big Change Charity which raises money to help children and young people reach their potential in a variety of areas raising money for initiatives such as Life Skills, The Key and Franklin Scholars. There is more information on their website where you can also donate on Stephen’s profile page www.strivechallenge.com/the team
Beech Lodge School has received considerable funding from the Shanly Foundation and we are very proud to have Stephen as our Ambassador on the challenge. Stephen has Dyslexia and found academic work very hard. He knows first hand how difficult and demoralising school can be for some children so as well as working for the Shanly Group, Stephen puts a phenomenal amount of energy into raising money for good causes – but this one is his biggest yet!
We will be following his training programme (apparently he’s having a rowing lesson with Matthew Pinsent next week) and trying to help raise money for him over the next few months!
Good luck Stephen!!
